You could try Skanect: http://skanect.occipital.com/ You can download a free-for-personal-use version and I believe it only requires a microsoft kinect (or equivalent hardware). According to the documentation the configuration parameters are read from a text file. In order to change something you just edit the text file and the board will pick up the changes. I have been looking into the Smoothieboard for a project I'm building now but I can't find anyone who has them in stock everyone is sold out of the X5 witch is the one I need..
