Re: The State of the Gear

As for suggestions, a means to rigidly lock X-Y-Z would be a big help when attempting to remove a part from the print bed. Keep up the good work. Personally I don't think that would be a wise practice. Better to remove the bed so you aren't stressing any of the drive/support components while removi...

Re: E3D V6

Just want to make a correction noted in this discussion (and in others in the forums) regarding the wiring of the electronics unit and extruder cooling fans. It's stated that the fans are connected in series (not true). For units having the 24v power supply they are not connected in series but in pa...

Re: The State of the Gear

The M4 concept would be great. Our office is presently looking for an FDM machine and we have determined this is the sweet spot for size. As for suggestions, a means to rigidly lock X-Y-Z would be a big help when attempting to remove a part from the print bed. Keep up the good work.

Re: Irregular Wall Surface

Problem Solved A sizable slug of filament appears to have "backed up" the extrusion channel (zone above the hot end) and flowed into the gap between the extruder drive gear and the ID of the housing body forming something of a cam lobe on the drive gear. This condition would alter the squeeze on th...

Re: Irregular Wall Surface

That reminds me of the "lines on side of print" section in the Simplify3D troubleshooting: https://www.simplify3d.com/support/print-quality-troubleshooting/ That is exactly what it looks like. The odd thing, however, is that the condition only occurs the faces perpendicular to the Y-axis. I think t...

Irregular Wall Surface

Never encountered this issue before. One photo is of a print made before removing the hot end and extruder drive body, the other is the same part printed with same settings and same filament spool after reassembly. Same extruder drive body and hot end. Note how at regular intervals of layer heights ...

Re: Bed Fan Duct

It's a app called "FFT Plot" from the Apple's App Store. Uses the iPhone's built-in microphone or you can plug in an external microphone if you desire. I am running it on an iPhone 5S. I have used this app on an iPad with a high fidelity microphone in the lab at the office and compared results to th...

Re: Bed Fan Duct

Here is the 50mm fan with no guard. Noise is more or less the same without the guard as it is with the new guard.

Re: Bed Fan Duct

Printed the 50mm fan guard. Successfully reduced ambient noise. Measurements taken at 100% speed set point. Calculate rpm to be around 7k rpm.
