Expiration Date on Filament?

Long story short, I moved 3 times in 18 months. Just when I thought I would get back to printing again, I was in job hunting mode, then relocating cross country, packing, moving, unpacking, etc. etc. etc. So I have filament in two states. Still factory sealed but purchased 18+ months ago. And spools...

Re: Best camera to use with MG M3 ID

Not exactly the response requested, but I have an older mac book (2010) that was having issues. I turned it into a M3 Controller (ie. it runs S3D) to start up prints via the sdflash card. Once the print is running, I start up the Photo Booth App, and point the camera at the printer. I then share the...

Re: Bed Fan Duct

I had the exact same warping problem (you have no idea how many bad/almost unacceptable prints I went through) you've experienced. I have installed this duct and have not worried about backpressure issues, AND solved my issues with over-cooling on the front. The below duct reduces maintenance access...

CNC Laser cutter/engraver

Couple of years ago, there was a proliferation of desktop Pro-sumer CNC Laser cutters available for sale. Most of them were Chinese knockoffs of dubious value and even less compatibility with typical CAD Software formats. I decided I'd like to augment my 3D printing with some form of high-precision ...

Re: PLA "over adheres" to kapton+hair spray?

I had a similar problem after a filament switch, and a long idle time for the printer. The issue was z height calibration. I had skipped running calibration cubes despite the conventional wisdom to *always* calibrate after a filament change. I was "over smushing" layer one. Still at a loss at how a ...

Re: Cooling Back of Prints

Had a similar but different issue with large-ish prints and realized that the extruder fan was blowing on the front of print for the duration of the print, causing uneven cooling and warping the part on side away from fan. So I printed and put one of those shrouds that ducts the extruder cooling air...

Re: Splitting & Exporting a Model in Pieces

You'll have to "remove" the extra components, and export out one sub-section at a time. I've been, cough, frustrated, with Autodesk's free tools, so I always work from, or save a master file with all sub-assemblies in it, then manipulate the mesh/es until I have the one part of interest on screen. I...

Re: Perfect Print Pry Up Tool for PEI, MIC6 or bare glass

I have the "Michaels" Cake spatula. I mostly use it to clean blobs off the extruder and scrape remnants off the build plate. I bought this from Amazon: ToyBuilder Labs - 3D Print Removal Tool https://www.amazon.com/ToyBuilder-Labs-Print-Removal-Tool/dp/B00VB1U886/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1480606140&sr...

Re: Worn out extruder gear?

I'm working on a filament splicer/winder to help with the mountain of partial spools that has been building up. I get too many print failures by not being there when the spool runs out, so I really need a jig that splices and then winds from one spool onto another in order to make full spools from ...
