Re: Multiple Super Weird Failure Modes

Yep. That was one problem. Thank you. The hot end was bad, heater and sensor both. The replacement we had in stock was DOA with a bad connection to the sensor out of the bag. A second replacement allows the M2 to heat and hold temperatures perfectly, and the control interface -- S3D -- shows good so...

Multiple Super Weird Failure Modes

I started getting filament sticking in the throat of the hot end during setup. This is a single extruder V4 24 volt M2 that's run several hundred kg of ABS and PLA through four different nozzles on two different hot ends. It's got a number of mechanical mods to make it more robust -- a miniature I-b...

Spool Spindle for Repurposed Empty Spools....

Our tooling guy was tasked with finding a way to avoid having two people each on some of the production machinery when very long wire assemblies stream off. His idea was to use some of the many hundreds of empty Hatchbox spools we have lying around for work-in-progress buffers. He needed a spindle t...

Re: Hardwareless Toy Caterpillar Tread System

OK, the 20 tooth drive cog link gets you both right and left versions now. Again, the only difference is which side has the build platform added, so that you get a nice surface finish on the side with the grooves you need for the track on that side of the vehicle.

Re: Hardwareless Toy Caterpillar Tread System

Thank you sir! Here's the 20 tooth drive cog with the revised clearances -- only one side for now. Remember these are right- or left-handed cosmetically because the track is asymmetric on the back: http://www.scifiwheels.com/images/M2Parts/cog20t.zip Here's a short fuzzy ancient cell phone video -- ...

Re: Hardwareless Toy Caterpillar Tread System

Note: I'm getting better performance out of the test set when I decrease the width of the cog teeth by .020" and increase the widths of the two adjacent grooves by .010" each to compensate. I've got a 20-tooth cog now with those dimensions and I can get really high speed out of the setup -- the trea...

Hardwareless Toy Caterpillar Tread System

It occurred to me one morning it might be fun to design a hardwareless caterpillar tread assembly -- links that would simply snap together with a proper over-rotation and slide into place. No deformation... no bending... just fold them back into a relative angle they'll never see installed, and <cli...

Re: M2 Build Plates Slowly Deforming

Ah, old post, new information. My original post concerned apparent deformation in the long axis of the build plate. I was advised that it was more likely deformation in the frame and linear way. There WAS deformation in the long axis' linear way. I fixed that by adding a miniature I-beam below the v...

Re: Stiffening The Long Horizontal Gantry

thats great but that is the y gantry and not what ed and i were talking about in the other thread. x gantry is the one that is prone to flexing or bowing down in the center from belt tension. never seen anyone have that problem with the y. generally you just need to slightly shim that top rail to t...
