Re: Extruder keeps slipping

Hey guys, I just wanted to come back here and post a follow-up for others. After struggling with the V3b extruder, I finally went back to the previous (V3?) ceramic hot end style extruder and my problems all vanished. I've been printing regularly for months without a single pop or click once I switc...

Re: Extruder keeps slipping

Hey guys, I finally had a chance to take another crack at this issue over the weekend. In my case I was able to solve this by recompiling the M2 firmware and boosting the digipot value for the extruder current. I bumped the value from 165 to 255 after trying several different values. In addition to ...

Re: Extruder keeps slipping

Ok thanks guys. This is the why this problem has been challenging: The filament is making all the way through the hot end. However, when extruding only about 50%-75% of the amount of filament that should be extruded is extruded because of the popping & clicking similar to what is shown in the video ...

Re: Extruder keeps slipping

After replacing the pinion gear, I had some time to investigate this some more. I'm at a bit of a loss because replacing the pinion gear didn't appear to improve the situation. Basically, when I have the hot end up to temperature and remove the filament drive, I can push the filament through the hot...

Re: Extruder keeps slipping

I have worked with the good people at MarkerGear to get this pinion gear replaced on my machine. Once I receive and test it, I will report back if it successfully resolved my issue or if I'm still in the hunt for a solution. Thanks for the help guys.

Re: Extruder keeps slipping

I separated the planetary gearbox from the stepper and the gear that's mounted on the stepper shaft was worn down significantly. Each tooth of the gear was worn down to a sharp point and the diameter of the gear as a whole was reduced. Does this necessarily mean it's the source of the problem though...

Re: Extruder keeps slipping

I put a groove mount on my other 3D printer to try and debug this issue. I have mounted my M2 hot ends on my other printer as a test and then print fine. It's only when printing on my M2 that I have a problem.

Now that I know that the gearbox might have a problem. I'm going to look into that.

Re: Extruder keeps slipping

My MakerGear M2 is experiencing this exact same issue. I've had my M2 for over a year now and have kept it very well maintained and have run many spools of PLA and ABS through it. But at this point, my M2 is basically parked until I get to the bottom of this problem. This issue didn't crop up for th...
