what changes did you make besides nozzle diameter to make it work also is it brass or the stainless?

I got a .5 stainless steel nozzle and installed it. I cannot seem to get it to print reliably. I changed the diameter in simplify3d but each print with regular PLA does not print reliably. somewhere after the first couple of layers everything becomes a tangled mess stuck to the nozzle.
