Re: y axis slipping?

Run thru a bunch of stuff with the service department after they got back to me; switched motors, cables, ran some gcode tests etc.

They're sending me a box so I can send it back.

Re: y axis slipping?

ah, 1/100; will do- at 1/10 the print is already all bugged out due to overextrusion on the corners, not looking forward to what happens with that. Making the changes in starting script, M201 X & Y, M202 X & Y, M204 S. If acceleration turns out to be the problem, what should I do about it? I've loos...

Re: y axis slipping?

Hi Ednisely, I did one at 1/10 the acceleration. it errored out as described above.

Changing to 'full honeycomb' made the error only appear at the transition from solid base layers to fill; not good enough to print anything with but a change nonetheless.

Re: y axis slipping?

Slow print errored as well, running one now with a different infill (full honeycomb vs fast honeycomb); the grinding sound is much reduced but still occurs, again only when a layer ands, and the Z step happens and the first subsequent motion is X; then a tiny brrt on the Y motor and the print contin...

Re: y axis slipping?

Running that test now, wondering why the motor would overload only on that single motion and never at any other time in a layer. I assume it's the first or second printing motion of the new layer. Like so: layer complete, Z step, X motion (printing?) RGRGRGRGRGRGRGT Y motion (printing?) layer offset...

Re: y axis slipping?

Hi Ed! I've been printing successfully with PETG since I got the machine; early prints would curl, and the head would bump into them, but even at that stage there were no stutters, the hot end would smooth over the bump or simply knock the piece off the bed (!). I based my profile on a successful on...

Re: y axis slipping?

Hi Steve, that does sound (a bit) like it; I've checked the connections and reseated the cable a few times, everything looks good with a voltmeter. What gets me is that it ONLY takes place at the first Y motion of a new layer. Not in the middle of anything; it's repeatable almost exactly from print ...

Re: y axis slipping?

Update: after a few weeks on the service forum I have taken my printer apart, put it back together again, reflashed the firmware, and I still print like this.

Re: y axis slipping?

Just finished up with that, many thanks for your help!

I'll update this when I find out what's going on and welcome any other suggestions. Overall it's been a long time since I've worked with a machine I've enjoyed as much as this one.
