Re: Print Settings for PETG: eSUN Solid Black Filament

A question for PETG users: how does it fair on a practical level if you try to saw it / drill it / tap holes? I'm using ABS because I love being able to machine it a bit afterward to get the bolt holes threaded and just the right diameters and such. Does 3d printed PETG do okay with this? PLA is hor...

Re: Nozzle sizes

My 0.25mm nozzle came in and the first tiny benchy looks good:

I'm going to try even tinier experiments now :)

Re: Nozzle sizes

Can't help you with different nozzles but you can print some small stuff with a .25 MG nozzle. Granted this is several different pieces but still pretty good if you ask me. What are you trying to print that you need really fine detail? There are limits to what FDM printers can do ... depending on w...

Re: Nozzle sizes

Does anybody know a source of compatible nozzles in sizes other than those sold by Makergear? I've read about people using nozzles smaller than 0.25mm and (assuming you keep things clean and don't mind waiting) apparently it can make fine results. The things I'm printing are very small so the added ...

Go-anywhere optical rail that holds any pose

Okay, this is my favorite work related print so far. It's complicated and has many parts and I never would have had this if it weren't for 3d printing. This setup is an optical rail for lenses, filters, and fiber lasers. The rail can be easily re-positioned by hand but stays firmly in whatever posit...

Re: The precision of the MakerGear is amazing

did you scale up your model slightly to account for plastic shrinkage? No, I did not. I did a temperature tower though (also posted on r/functionalprint a bit before) and picked settings where the resulting section was just the right size. There are so many parameters that impact the final size in ...

The precision of the MakerGear is amazing

I decided to try printing out a few parts and doing some test fitting to figure out some engineering details before I order machine shop metal cutting. One of the things I wanted to print was some 1" T-slot extrusion (about 6" long). I was kind of worried that it wouldn't be precise enough to test f...

Re: HIPS

Can you share what settings you used where it actually stuck to the ABS? I can build nice HIPS towers and nice ABS towers but running them together I can't get the HIPS to build on top of ABS for supports. I would love to know what temp, movement rate, retraction, etc that other people are using suc...

Re: What is the preferred way to correct dimensional toleran

That was a very reassuring post, thanks. I printed some calibration cubes to figure out my shrinkage scaling and find it scales a bit with size (the percentage scales, obviously the raw distance should be proportional to size). After a bit of metrology work I can crank out 20mm cubes that my microme...

What is the preferred way to correct dimensional tolerances

I suppose this is a calibration question. I'm building some ~4-10cm across parts that have fitting holes for bearings and posts, but the hole sizes are off by significant amounts. This isn't an extrusion-level error but multiple millimeter errors in hole sizes depending on orientation of the hole. I...
