Re: Flexible Magnetic Build Surface for the M2/M3

Peter, I don’t know that I would change anything, at least I need nothing changed for my intended use. Now that I have spent time using this plate system, there is no way I am going back to the old glass bed and blue tape! It has been a major performance upgrade that took minimal effort compared to ...

Re: Flexible Magnetic Build Surface for the M2/M3

Steve, I have been pleased as well at how the PEX handles small isolated islands of printing, especially like you see in the first layer before the perimeters and infill start to combine those islands into one layer. I have been using the bed for two weeks now and am very happy so far. I have been m...

Re: Flexible Magnetic Build Surface for the M2/M3

Peter, I forgot to mention that I only tested PLA. I may run some PETG on it in the future. I will also try some Ninjaflex when I have a call for it. I do not print ABS at all. I usually run my bed at 50°C for PLA. PLA can be run without a heated bed, so I figured I would drop down even more during ...

Re: Flexible Magnetic Build Surface for the M2/M3

So, there is another placeI deviated a bit from the instructions. I did rub the PEX with the included steel wool, but I wanted more filament grip. So I changed to a plastic scuffing pad. I used a maroon 3M Scotchbrite pad like these. They are about a 600 grit. It performs about like 00 or maybe 000 ...

Re: Flexible Magnetic Build Surface for the M2/M3

As to flatness for printing, it seems fine to me. The M2 uses rubber bed mounts, the bed can be moved by pushing the corners up and down with a finger. This printer was designed with a certain amount if compliance. It helps keep the print nozzle from knocking prints loose or getting stuck and losing...

Re: Flexible Magnetic Build Surface for the M2/M3

I designed these bed clips to go with my flexible build plate from Wham Bam Systems. They definitely fit the M2. I am not sure about the M3 and others. If you can verify the fit for other printers, let me know. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3750671 The front clips hold the bed in place to preven...

Re: Flexible Magnetic Build Surface for the M2/M3

Ok, now I can take off the blue tape and drop down to .05mm increments. 016004AB-B690-4328-846B-F2997702DE8C.jpeg Here is the link to my test file at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3750638 It is just a .50 tall small ring. I printed it with a brim that is 10mm distant. It is good enough to see ho...

Re: Flexible Magnetic Build Surface for the M2/M3

Here is a photo essay on setting your nozzle height. I left the blue tape on until I got pretty close. I dropped the nozzle .10mm for each try. Your printer may need more or less adjusting. This is too high. It is the nozzle height from the business card. 0989C29D-F99B-4D61-A67D-097750A8AF6E.jpeg Ok...

Re: Flexible Magnetic Build Surface for the M2/M3

Now it is time to set the new bed height. 1. Heat up your hot end and your bed with new Wham Bam plate installed as you would for printing. 2. Now you can loosen the set screw on extruder mount plate at the nozzle heat break and push the nozzle up a little (not with your fingers!). You may want to r...
