Re: is printer market similar to 1910 radio market?

I'm not very good at predicting the future, but I suspect 3D printing will become much more mainstream and accessible that it is now. I don't expect it will become a household item though. I don't think enough folks have the design skills or the desire to make stuff, even if it were plug-and-play-si...

MakerGear: Thanks for great customer service

I picked up my first 3D printer - an M2 - back in late January. It's been working great, but there was one aspect of the machine that I started to question. Finally on Friday night I took some careful measurements and shimmed some stuff to get things where I thought they needed to be. I wrote the fo...

Re: What gauge wire for fans?

The fans draw on the order of 100ma or less. 24 ga wire is PLENTY large for that current.
Smaller wire will make soldering/wiring more difficult.
Existing wiring I believe is 22 ga, but could be 24.

Re: Just setup OctoPrint. Any tips?

The nozzle diameter in the OctoPrint printer profile doesn't seem to have any impact on the print.

Re: How You Too Can Achieve Printing Nirvana

Just ran a test part with Hatchbox PETG (Orange) - no heat on the bed and it seemed to stick adequately. At 60C I was leaving bits on the surface when removing parts, so I thought I'd try it cold. I have Black Hatchbox and some eSun PETG too - will try those as well to see what I get. I'm printing t...

Re: Retraction points - How good can it get?

I can post some pics in a couple days. I'm not mystified by the options in the software - they make sense. I can make improvements on things when I am having issues. The purpose of the post was to see your 'best of' builds from a quality standpoint so I can get a feel for the limits with different m...

Re: I dont have blue painter tape

Assuming you have a new printer ... the glass sheet comes with yellow Kapton film on one side. Just let the platform cool before you try removing the part and be careful not to cut the film. It's not a big deal if you do - a pack of 10 sheets runs about $15 on Amazon. That works pretty well for PLA ...

Re: Retraction points - How good can it get?

don't be afraid to play around with your Coast and Wipe setting either Yep, I've played with all that stuff. Just trying to get some idea of where I should set the bar when trying to work things out. I also found that it is somewhat part dependent, in that a negative Extra Restart Distance worked g...

Retraction points - How good can it get?

I've been playing this game only since the end of January. Done a lot of printing and learned a lot of stuff, but I haven't done any intensive work on minimizing retraction zits. I've done some and am pretty happy with the results I get. FWIW, I normally set S3D to put all the retraction points alon...
