Re: ePC hold-down method

UPDATE: ePC doesn't want to stick to ABS slurry very well, so that didn't work. That's interesting, because that was one suggestion I got from Gizmodorks for running their black - but I hadn't tried it. I think it was that the ABS slurry didn't stick to the PEI. When I sanded the ABS slurry area it...

Re: ePC hold-down method

I know jimc is printing extruder parts with ePC, but I think he uses Mic6 and hairspray. It seems like you should be able to use progressively coarser sandpaper to rough up the PEI surface until you reach a point where it sticks. ABS slurry also works with other plastics besides ABS, so I might try ...

ePC hold-down method

It looks like people have been using ePC with success here, but I can't figure out how to get this material to stick to a PEI plate. I'm just trying to print a small filament drive with it and even that completely works itself off the plate after only 10mm or so of height. I've tried buffing the PEI...

Re: Modified Ikea enclosure

I recently came across this alternate Ikea design which I think is a better one because it doesn't force the printer to be sideways:

It is probably cheaper too.

Re: Worn out extruder gear?

I did run a big PETG job through it earlier in the year where it was printing 24 hours a day for about a week straight. It's been all PLA since then. We've got 18 M2s on the team now between various locations (they just bought five more today), so I may just make new filament drives with the funnel ...

Re: Worn out extruder gear?

I found something else about worn out filament drives that can cause jams when feeding in a new spool. The two holes in the drive that the filament feeds through actually becomes worn and elongated over time as thousands of feet of filament rub the walls. The inherent curvature on the filament cause...

Re: Worn out extruder gear?

After having a new feed jam about six times in a row I finally downloaded the step file for the v4 filament drive, r2 and modified it. There was a little bit of a funnel there, but not nearly enough. I about doubled the opening diameter of the funnel and will see how that goes.

Re: Worn out extruder gear?

Both the R2 and R3 versions look like they have a bit of a funnel to the bottom hole already I think the only difference with the R3 is it has the cut out on the left side to clean the gear with a brush. When your changing/chasing filaments while running are the ends of both filaments cut at 90°? I...

Re: Worn out extruder gear?

are you sure the pinion gear in the planetary box is not worn out? that is usually the thing to go ....atleast in the past. not sure what era the extruder motor is. it takes quite alot to wear out the filament drive. i do replace them maybe once a year though. The outside gear is still turning when...

Re: Worn out extruder gear?

Yeah, I printed a new drive and it's working fine now. I want to modify that drive so that the exit hole under the gear on the inside has a funnel lead-in. Just having a hole on a flat plane like it is has been plaguing me on feeding in new filament during a print when a spool runs out. If the end o...
