Re: X and Y Layer Shifts
Note that all of the pictures were taken after removing the parts from the bed, and the specific one you annotated with arrows doesn't have the prints sitting anywhere near their original location and orientation on the bed, and their back ends are resting on the still-stuck skirts. That being said,...

X and Y Layer Shifts
I'm confining my posts to the Getting Started forum for now, because I'm a brand new M2 owner and still going through the new user learning curve. I hope this is the right category for this post. After printing a calibration square on my new printer and finding that it came out really close to the e...

Re: Is a skirt really necessary?
to get the extrusion flowing smoothly ... and to pressurize the plastic inside the hot end. The extruder drools at zero pressure with the filament not moving, so the hot end end has an air bubble inside. Aha! I had not considered the effect of having no back pressure during the purge. Ok, so the pu...

Re: Is a skirt really necessary?
Thanks! I was wondering because my skirts seemed to be coming out perfectly on my new M2, vs. the incomplete and blobby skirts produced by my previous printer+slicer combination. I don't have much experience with my M2 yet, but so far the purge + wipe cycle seems to be more effective than the purge ...

Is a skirt really necessary?
My understanding is that the purpose of the skirt is to get the extrusion flowing smoothly at the start of the print. Is it really necessary, given the initial drool over the side of the bed that Simplify3D performs to prime and wipe the nozzle?

Re: Happy new M2 owner!
Oooh, yes, posting an Amazon review is a good idea! I'd like to get more mm of filament under the head first. So, while printing HEXA.G (which is a lovely song, by the way), I noticed that the bottom layer lines weren't fully fused together. Manually advancing the Z axis knob two clicks higher over ...

Happy new M2 owner!
I just completed my first test print on my brand new M2, after getting hooked on 3D printing through my experience with the really inexpensive Monoprice Select Mini. Wow, this M2 is really impressive! I didn't realize that the Rev. E eliminated all mechanical adjustments from the bed leveling. Manua...

Re: Dual Extruder Upgrade Availability?
Aha! I hadn't considered the porosity of the printed object. Thanks for pointing that out.

Re: Dual Extruder Upgrade Availability?
I plan to order some PVA and HIPS to experiment with, but I get the feeling that I will only want to use it when I really need it. I actually am interested in experimenting with using HIPS by itself for some special-purpose prints. I understand that polystyrene is useful for certain electronic appli...
