Slic3r can't handle shallow slopes and I'm losing my mind

http://imgur.com/mvFiQa6 Whenever there's a shallow-sloped top surface, slic3r makes very thin top surfaces, leading to ugly gaps. 1. Every infill pattern does this. 2. Upping the perimeters doesn't work for large sloped surfaces. 3. Any number of solid top layers (even something like 1000) doesn't ...

Re: Do the timing belts ever wear out?

Thanks for the advice, everyone! I did a few tests, and have come to the conclusion that the extruder motor is to blame. The pinion gear on the stepper's shaft was slipping, so I added a few drops of superglue to lock it in place. This helped keep the gear on, but the connection isn't strong enough ...

Do the timing belts ever wear out?

I'm starting to notice small amounts of layer slipping on prints. I plan on re-tensioning all the belts, but is it possible this slippage is due to the belts wearing out? Should they ever be replaced?

Re: Pinion slipping- any short-term fixes?

I ended up putting low-viscosity superglue on the seam, and letting it wick into the gap. The machine's running fine for now.

Re: Pinion slipping- any short-term fixes?

got a photo? Is this detachment inside the motor, or outside? The extruder gear connected outside the stepper motor can be replaced. I had to replace mine because it was loose and the set bolt was stripped: order one from karen@makergear. Or inside the motor, are there gears in there? Or is the sha...

Pinion slipping- any short-term fixes?

I was having trouble extruding plastic, so I cleaned out the nozzle. After re-assembling (1 hour down the drain), I found that the extruder's stepper motor was significantly weaker. I disassembled the gearbox and found that the stepper's shaft isn't properly attached to its gear, and is slipping whe...

Re: Makergeek all metal J-head?

I have an E3D (v5...v6 is on order) and it's been great. If you don't buy from the company directly (in the UK), you can also buy them from http://www.printedsolid.com/shop/e3d/e3dv6/ -Lon Thanks for the tip! I assume you got direct drive? If so, it just snapped into the M2's existing hardware sinc...
