I just picked one of these up at a guitar store yesterday for $2.70. Works great, much easier & less delicate than the #79 drill bit I had been using. Thanks for the tip.
cheers,

Re: LCD case/position change
I don't have any extra desk space and I like the printer to be self-contained. I remixed my favorite Makergear tool holder with a little shelf on the front angled at 45deg. This puts the controller in a very convenient spot, it's stuck on with velcro so you can remove it and use it as a wired remote...

MakerGear M2 Locline Octoprint Camera Mount
I wasn't really satisfied with any of the Raspi/camera mounts that I found online so I made this. Just two small parts, works with standard 1/4" LocLine, holds the printserver/camera wherever you want. Easy to reposition, holds steady, uses an existing hole, works great. The knob part works best whe...

Re: Favorite way to prep your bed surface for printing PLA?
Height isn't an issue when printing on vinyl. We used to print very large pieces on it (to the max envelope of the Makerbot Rep 2), then pin/glue the parts together to make huge parts. When printing PLA at room temp, you can twist or pry the parts off. When printing ABS with bed heat (I'm using 60c)...

Re: Favorite way to prep your bed surface for printing PLA?
Here's a PLA print on vinyl done at 30c (the room is 27c, so bed is essentially off). Right now I'm printing ABS on the same vinyl at 60c with no problems. The other nice thing about vinyl is that it's so thin that no Z-adjustment is necessary when switching between glass bed, hairspray, elmers, vin...

Re: Favorite way to prep your bed surface for printing PLA?
I'm mostly running Elmers Glue Stick on the glass with the bed set to 30c. Sticks great. Before this printer I had a fleet of Makerbots at work (about 20), which had plastic unheated beds. Originally, I used the blue painters tape which worked ok, but there were a couple of problems. It was very pro...

Re: Loud Fans
I just made this swap yesterday and the difference in the noise levels is astounding. It used to sound like I had a dustbuster running on my desk and now it's nearly silent. I only replaced the 40mm fans with Noctua's, the 50mm fan is stock since I couldn't find a 24v 50mm quiet fan to swap it with....
