Re: E3Dv6 jamming when printing smaller objects:(

Looks like it solved the issue!!! I did two things: * Put a piece of Kapton tape around the heater block. Just a temporarily measure until I get some some fibreglass sleeve to help insulate the block against the fan for PLA. * Applied thermal paste to the threads between the heatbreak and heatsink o...

Re: E3D quietly admits issue with E3Dv6 and heat soak

Looks like it solved the issue!!! I did two things: * Put a piece of Kapton tape around the heater block. Just a temporary measure until I get some some fibreglass sleeve to help insulate the block against the fan for PLA. Having the fan blow on the unprotected heater block causes it to work harder ...

Re: E3Dv6, jimc's extruder and excessive cooling

I covered the heater block on the E3Dv6 with a few layers of Kapton to insulate it from the ducted fan. Seems to work a treat. I have a slight drop in temperature (4 degrees ) when the fan activates, but it quickly returns to 215 degrees. I ordered some fibreglass fire sleeve 20mm ID, which will hop...

Re: E3Dv6 jamming when printing smaller objects:(

I am pretty sure my E3Dv6 build is good. I have double checked all the things you have mentioned. ABS works fine by the way. I am assuming the higher melting temperature eliminates any jamming in upper portion of the heatbreak. According to this post, a number of people seems quite happy with the th...

Re: E3D quietly admits issue with E3Dv6 and heat soak

Yes, it would draw the heat away from the heatbreak towards the heatsink more effectively with the paste between the heatbreak and the heatsink. So to me that means a cooler heatbreak (at least the top portion) and therefore less likelyhood of jamming. That how I see it, when looking at the cutaway ...

Re: Whats the insulating sleeve on the V3b heatblock called?

I think I figured it out. It seems to be fibreglass sleeving with a silicone coating. I ordered some 20mm ID sleeve for my E3Dv6 (searched for "fire sleeve 20mm" on ebay), to protect the block from being cooled by external fans.

Whats the insulating sleeve on the V3b heatblock called?

Hi all,

Just wondering what the thermal insulating material is called, that is used on the V3b heatblock? Anyone know, and where I could get some from?

And also what size?

Thanks,

loiphin.

Re: E3Dv6 jamming when printing smaller objects:(

So the filament drive was an issue, but I think the root cause is in fact that when printing PLA (at least in my case) there is heat soak, which causes the filament to heat up in the heatbreak and get jammed. And then today I noticed on the E3Dv6 assembly instructions they have snuck in an additiona...

E3D quietly admits issue with E3Dv6 and heat soak

Hi all, I have been having problems with my E3Dv6 and printing smaller prints. It seems to jam up when doing slow prints (probably due to heat soak), and then the filament is stripped by the extruder gear. And then today I noticed on the E3Dv6 assembly instructions they have snuck in an additional s...
