Re: TIPS ABOUT HOW TO GET MORE OUT OF THIS FORUM

If you click "MakerGear" in the title of the blue box on the front page, you get a much more useful listing of all the most recent threads with activity.

Re: A good start

Will, check out my latest printer tool: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:301592 Helps get stuck prints off the bed. Razor blade scraper redrawn from jimc's model, which uses (apparently) narrower single edged razors. Mine uses double edged; added a slip cover, and now includes retention lugs to hold...

Re: Thar she blows

Really? I think it (natural PLA) looks awful! This is the only print I've ever done in natural PLA that has come out remotely good looking. Also it photographs terribly, and tends to make things look like they were made out of bird's nest soup. I have a roll because it was like a dollar cheaper, and...

Thar she blows

My daughter is studying whales at school, so I decided to print her one to take to class: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:182337 Natural PLA at 0.10mm, double model scale. With previous versions of Simplify3D, I had random infill turned off as it would tend to disturb the seam placement and make it...

Re: S3D Strange Slicing

Just try different first layer heights and make sure you check out the gcode preview from the top view to make sure the holes haven't been closed. You don't need to adjust by 10%, 1% is fine. You are just trying to slightly shift the layers to avoid problem geometry, after all. The smallest change s...

Re: S3D Strange Slicing

Nope. Clayton said in an email:
Unfortunately, there are a lot more possible errors with STL files than just manifold edges (but that's one of the most common ones!). The software can check for some of these, but there are still others that will pass all tests yet still cause problems later on.

Re: S3D Strange Slicing

As an aside, looking at your supports, I like to manually add supports to fully support any overhanging arcs and hit all the corners on straight overhangs. The new extend support parameter in 2.1.0 may obviate the need, if you use it.

Re: S3D Strange Slicing

Check out the last section of my unofficial guide, which mentions this: http://jinschoi.github.io/simplify3d-docs/ Short story, S3D sometimes has issues with model geometry that aren't actual mesh errors. Rsilvers' model was done in solidworks from scratch, and is manifold. I have encountered the sa...

Re: Octoprint

Friend of mine uses/used it. Good is that it frees up your computer, and you can access it remotely and watch the percentage progress from a laptop or iPad. You don't have to worry about your print pausing when you do something that causes an external drive to spin up. Downside is that you do have t...
