Re: What's the smallest/finest bolt you can print on an M2?

I use bolts to hold things together, but personally, I wouldn't print them. Looking smooth is one thing. Holding up against shear forces is quite another.

Re: Favorite way to prep your bed surface for printing PLA?

Just to add my two cents (about bed surface prep, not about gliders): I use the Suave Max Hold in a pump bottle, not aerosol can. I feel that the pump bottle puts down just the right amount of material on the bed, not too much, not too little. Takes about 6 squirts of the pump to cover the glass. I ...

Re: Filament

Just buy from MakerGear. They recently dropped their prices, making them very competitive; the quality is still the best, and there's no better cause to support than MakerGear, because you know that the profit they make from selling filament is going back into development costs for the v4 hot-end an...

Re: Statue of David head

Does that mean that it works in general for ABS to put a skirt around the whole object that is the height of the object? I've seen that as an option on slic3r and S3D but didn't think it sounded especially useful. Maybe a dense cluster of support structures is even better?

Re: The M2 24V upgrade

I was sort of expecting that. And that may actually cause me to wait on the 24V upgrade, but having the V4 and/or dual extruder is the best argument for the upgrade. Thanks for the tip.

Re: Photo beads with OpenSCAD

I know of at least five people who have promised "I'll just clean up this code and. . .". And I have yet to get code from any of them. The best thing you can do is just to put it out there. If it's useful, people will use it. If it's broken, somebody will fix it. Anyway, I'm interested. . .

Re: Photo beads with OpenSCAD

Case in point, wings3d claims to read SVG paths, but when I throw something simple at it, it just spits back an error message. Haven't yet delved into to what it's looking for. SVG may be too general-purpose, like PostScript, but at least it's meant to describe geometry and there are certain lines t...

Re: Photo beads with OpenSCAD

Hmm, I guess "STL tools" will be my next project. : ) In the past, I have tried to get some information on the DXF format but was not very successful. I wrote an SVG format exporter for xcircuit, so I know a bit about that, enough to generate any kind of 2D shape and do basic transformations. A set ...

Re: Problems feeding flexible filament

Are you printing at the VERY slow speeds required for flexible filament, like 25mm/s, which is what Jim recommended to me?

Re: Using ABS

I don't want to claim too much knowledge about printing in ABS because the closest I have come is printing in PET+ (which is somewhat similar in temperature and consistency). But 235 was much too low for the ABS---the typical temperature is 230, and the V3b hot end needs an extra 20 added to that, s...
