Oh man, that's a good catch there. Not a place any of us were thinking to look for slop, clearly. I wouldn't think this is a wear issue, but it does sound like something to check for on the X and Y axes out of box and whenever you change belts.

Are the flats in the x or y direction? The problem axis is always perpendicular to the flats.

Chances are your dense support is sagging and not supporting as much as you'd like. I would try 2-3 dense support layers, or a higher % on the sparse infill. Maybe both. It's not like you have to worry about squeezing the support out of a tight space or anything, it could be a completely solid piece...

If all you want to do is start prints that are already on the SD card, you could try Pronterface. You wouldn't need the slic3r integration, you'd just use the printer interface to jog the printer and start an SD card print.

I found that using a fine grade sand paper works a little bit better than a scrubby....it gives it more tooth and doesn't affect the print surface.
