Re: How to get a smooth finish on a PLA printed part

Be *extremely* careful with THF vapor. Unlike acetone, the vapor is rather explosive. THF is normally diluted/mixed with other chemicals to keep the explosiveness down, but when you boil it those separate out. --End PSA-- I've had good luck with high build primer. As others have mentioned, it very m...

Re: Has anybody ran an M2 printer farm?

Would like to +1 the Octoprint / Octopi suggestion. I've been using it for over a month now, printing almost daily, and it's solid. The only issues I have had is if I power off the printer, I normally need to reboot Octoprint on my Pi to get it to resync, but not always. The next version (currently ...

Re: Modified Ikea enclosure

Here's mine, 90% of the way done. Everything is installed and working, though. Need to print out the holder for my webcam, mount the Pi (for octopi) to the wall as well, and do some wire management. Also, the LEDs while blue-tinted are nowhere near that blue in person. They're also remote controlled...

Re: Modified Ikea enclosure

Still finishing mine up. I've got the fan and the temp controller installed. Still wiring up the LED strips - hoping to get that done this weekend. Will post pics when done. I think probe placement is dependent upon what you're worried most about. Me personally, it's the RAMBo, so I put the probe on...

Re: Best price for NinjaFlex?

Same. Seems to be a single source / price lock setup for the time being. I wound up ordering mine from Adafruit just because they're relatively close so shipping was quick and relatively inexpensive.

Re: v4 Status

I loves me some upgrades. Next thing - dual 'struders, one with soluble support and the other with plastic! Hopefully they offer a single to dual extruder conversion kit.

Re: Why the advice to set first layer to 80-90% in S3D?

I have to wonder if that's because ye'olde recommendation (at least with the Makerbot Cupcakes/Thingomatics) was to crush the first layer a bit to force ABS adhesion. So you'd reduce the amount of plastic extruded via the first layer width setting. That's just pure conjecture though. I will try out ...

Re: Modified Ikea enclosure

Just came across this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OXPE8U6/

I know the OP already ordered theirs... but figured for everyone else, it's apparently the same internals as the STC-1000 but will read C or F, and is about $1 more than the STC-1000. Otherwise looks exactly the same.

Re: Modified Ikea enclosure

Awesome thanks! Maybe this will be a weekend project. I re-read your post, and do agree that their cheap side panels means it would make the box lighter. Things to think about.

Re: Trying to print spare filament drive

Just want to +1 both of the above posts. Most of the models I've been printing recently seem to do best with 2.25mm resolution on the support. I have no idea why... but 2mm and 2.5mm don't produce correct structures. You really want to get in there and see what S3D is going to do using the "Manual" ...
