Re: How To: Calibrate the Z-Offset

Thanks to both of you for the info and explanation. I suppose "having compensating errors in all those settings that null out to produce a perfect first layer" is kind of what I'm doing. I currently have the endstop bolt set so that I can just barely slide a piece of paper between the nozzle and the...

Re: How To: Calibrate the Z-Offset

Bookmarked! This makes a lot of sense. I'm going to play the devil's advocate (or maybe just the idiot :D ) for a minute. As I mentioned in passing in my other thread yesterday ( http://forum.makergear.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3120 ), I currently tweak my Z by changing the First Layer Height instead ...

Re: Layer height-dependent settings? Or something else?

It can be done with the 0.35mm, but you will be printing flat ribbons, and it's going to take forever, and you won't gain anything on surface details at all. Yeah that's more or less the conclusion I came to. It takes FOREVER (I swear it's way more than twice as long as the same print at 0.2 mm) an...

Re: Layer height-dependent settings? Or something else?

I have the standard 0.35 mm nozzle and right now I have the extrusion width set to 0.42 mm for both layer heights. So I'm good on your points 1 and 2. The 0.42 mm width is fairly close to the optimum for the 0.2 mm layer height (0.42/0.2 = 2.1) but 0.42/0.3 = 1.4 so that's probably too low and I was...

Re: 50mm bed fan not working

Welcome to the forum! The M106 g-code command controls the 50mm bed fan. One way to determine if it's a code issue is to open the g-code file that slic3r generated in Notepad (or equivalent) and do a search for "M106". Somewhere near the beginning of the code (generally, the beginning of the second ...

Layer height-dependent settings? Or something else?

Hi everyone, I have had a lot of success printing PLA parts with a 0.2 mm layer height. However for some of the parts I need to print, the 0.2 mm resolution is unnecessarily high so I've been trying a few parts at 0.3 mm layer height to save print time. At first, I thought that I could get nice prin...

Re: Diamond single-nozzle multiple extruder

Is that the one that was being discussed on this forum some time back, or a newer version of the same (it was a Kickstarter project when we were discussing it, and filament splicing in general)? Yes. I decided to contribute $5 to their Kickstarter so I've been getting all of their insider updates s...
