Re: Add zhop in Simplify3d? extruder sratching top layer sur
Extruder dragging on the top of the part is also indicative of the part curling at the edges or pulling up from the bed. If PLA, be sure your bed cooling fan is running full out all the time. And run a big flat part (a large thinwall box is fine) and see if the corners or sides are pulling up off th...

I noticed in the article that the boat appears to be sitting in a plastic bag when it's in water. Is this because the printed hull is not watertight?

helix_3,
Glad you got it working! (Sorry I couldn't find my old brick to send you. Watch, tonight I'll go home and it'll be "right there" where I left it. )

If you're comfortable with mechanical assembly, I think the kit is the way to go. No soldering skills needed, it's kind of like the mechanical assembly part of the Heathkits of old. ( My old -- I built a 5-tube radio when I was 10 years old). You will learn what everything is, what its purpose is, w...

Re: BattleBots
The big electrolytic capacitors from old linear computer power supplies were great for (exceedingly brief) welding. My borther (slowly) charged a 50,000 uF cap up to about 40 volts, then held the screw terminals up to a door hinge. It stayed there.

Re: Corner wall mount spool holder
There are some spool holder designs for the M2 on Thingiverse that you could steal (er, I mean "leverage"). Make an adapter to take the four-screw side mount to go to PVC pipe. You could print the remaining parts, or just make most of the rest out of glued-up pipe. Adding more weight supported by th...

Re: UFO Project
FWIW, I have a design for an MP3 player using an STA013$ MP3 decoder, so you can add whatever sound you want to it. Be aware that GOOD speakers can be a bit heavy, so you may have to upsize the whole thing. Uses a Freescale 9S08QE32, SDCard socket, WM8727 (IIRC) stereo D/A, and a TDA7056 (IIRC) audi...

4. Switch to keyed electrical connectors where possible to eliminate possibility of plugging things in backwards. I agree with that item, but I don't fault MakerGear. I'm fairly certain the Rambo board is a direct purchase from third party who supplies many printer vendors. Personally, I would LOVE...
