Re: Abe Lincoln
I decided to do some work on the print, since I wasn't too happy with the result overall. I've always been curious about faux stone finishes and thought it might work for this print. I wouldn't want to do this all the time, but I think it helped hide some defects and make it more interesting in this...

Abe Lincoln
This was a learning experience. If I were to do it again, I'd back off on the supports, do it in PLA not the more expensive PET+, and I'd print it at the high end of PLA temp range. You can see some splits, especially the one right on Lincoln's nose. There were 3 or 4 other minor splits. I was print...

When I first saw the video it looked almost comically fast, like watching a Keystone Cops short. Very cool.

Re: 3D printed model space plane
Man, every time I read someone's post saying the print or painting is sub-par, I know I'm about to feel like a rookie again  Great job all around -- modeling, building AND painting. The flaws may pop out at you since you know exactly where they are, but to someone looking at it with fresh eyes,...

Re: mini Metal maker speed & resolution claims
That's an interesting twist on 3D printing with clay. Looks like they are optimizing it for working with metal clay mixed to a particular consistency and at a higher resolution than other clay printers. If I were a jeweler or an artist working with metals, I'd be interested in how that develops. Bas...

Re: Need some advice on how to respond
... how many users out there who are successfully printing on any 3D printer relied completely on the documentation and software included in their purchase? I know I sure didn't- I have a long background in CAD and I still had a LOT to learn just to get that first quality print. If i relied only on...

Those look great, Jim. You have a really good sense for post treatment of prints. I've yet to do much to my prints after they're off the bed, but from an aesthetic standpoint it can add a lot.

Re: Need some advice on how to respond
I just read the negative review and, for what it's worth, he strikes me as someone with an axe to grind, not someone who is in an entirely reasonable frame of mind. That comes across pretty strongly to me, and I would think to others who read that review. Things like that boggle my mind...how one pe...

Re: Unstable filament drives and resulting groovemount damag
I had a good half-year or more of printing with the motor mount that was shipped with the M2 kit before it cracked, so it will take a good long while before I can say that the PET+ is doing as well as the ABS. If both of us have good reliability over a year, all the better. If we both scrap the exi...

Re: Unstable filament drives and resulting groovemount damag
I've had a motor mount crack, which caused the motor and filament drive to rotate. Concluding that ABS was perhaps not tough enough for the job, I printed my motor mount and filament drive in PET+, which is supposed to be a bit stronger than ABS. Since I have only been using the PET+ parts for a fe...
