Re: make shrink-on sleeve
One might ask about the photo of the shot that liberated the casing the apple in your photo is impaled on. I have to think about drying film by threading it through a towel. I have to confess I'm with the guys who were twitchy about this. i vaguely remember a story about Edgerton's involvement with ...

Re: make shrink-on sleeve
Hi Gwhite. thanks so much for the detailed response to my questions. I looked up Benelli on the web and I can see what you are doing. Pretty Slick. i've been modeling with Creo which I rent - $$. I need it for its cnc CAM package for the mill. I used to use it for stl modeling but more recently I've...

Re: make shrink-on sleeve
Gwhite, that's very nice. Is the aluminum grip ?? just beneath and in front of the gage part of the original gage "assembly" or from some other device? Don't you find making these things really rewarding, especially when they work well? I didn't doubt that the Nikon lens "grip" would . took it on a ...

Re: make shrink-on sleeve
Gwhite, isn't is amazing how often one can spend days searching the web for a particular part or device and then realize that it can be made? I still don't think of making something first.

Gwhite, I assume you are doing this for business, not solely your own amazement?

Re: make shrink-on sleeve
Bingo GWhite, I spent my career designing stuff, buildings and factories. Buildings and factories are different from little things like I machine or print now. You have to get them right the first time, no ducts running though elevator shafts for example - yes, someone I worked with did that in 1966...

Re: make shrink-on sleeve
there's always glue, or using windex as a lubricant same as floating kapton tape onto the bed glass.
I overthink everything.

Re: make shrink-on sleeve
I hadn't thought of ninjaflex but will give it some thought. coefficient of expansion tends to be pretty stubborn. I need to see if I get the same number Phil did and if this actually works with a real print, but .020 would be plenty good if I can get a sleeve that's at 50 or 60C above ambient shove...

Re: make shrink-on sleeve
Thanks Phil,
Coefficient of expansion ought to at least suggest a place to start.
i'll make a few rings maybe an inch long of slightly different diameters, try them and use the size that works for the big one.
thanks again.

make shrink-on sleeve
Nikon could have thought more about the design of their 500MM F8 Catadioptric lens. As it is, it is impossible to hand-hold without disturbing the focus which on a lens of that focal length is very twitchy. So I made this aluminum sleeve for mine and it works exactly as I had hoped. I support the le...
