Printing M2 parts STEP to STL?

So, I've finally gotten comfortable enough with printing ABS to think about printing off some 'backup' or 'spare' parts for my M2. I found the github repository but it looks like a lot of those files are .STEP files. How do you convert those to .STL files? Anyone? My Googlefu is not really powerful ...

Re: best filament for the price

I've had very good results with 3D Solutech (which claims to be made in America if that matters to you) PLA. Just started using their ABS (accidentally - assumed it was PLA and ordered it, then wondered why I couldn't get it to stick to the bed. Works for me now with the bed at 90C on a Zebra plate)...

Re: How to set up Octopi?

Here's my Octopi Settings screen (I have a dual-extruder machine. If you have one extruder, adjust the last two settings.): Shouldn't the volume be X = 200mm (technically 203), Y=250mm (technically 254), and Z = 200mm (technically 203)? Did you shorten Y to account for the clips? Is that why you ha...

Re: S3D virtual machine does not match M2 Bed

This is probably a dumb question, but why do you even need the clips? To keep the glass plate from slipping?

On mine I just removed them and have had no issues. Of course now I print on a Zebra plate...

Re: So... what causes this

Just thought I would post a brief update. Had fairly good luck using hairspray on the Kapton(TM) tape (as long as I truly puddled it). However, eventually got tired of having to deal with cleaning the hairspray off when it got too crazy thick (and having chunks of dried hairspray on my prints) and I...

Re: So... what causes this

Thanks all for the help. I have been having good success now with the hairspray on the PI tape coated bed, but man I really have to liberally apply the hairspray. I am estimating something like 10 prints for 1 can of hairspray (plus or minus a few). I don't really like how bad the bed looks after a ...

Re: So... what causes this

Couple of possibilities that i can see...... You didn't use adhesive and your print either warped up causing the nozzle to hit it, (it's kind of hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like you've got PLA stuck to the outside of it), or your supports got knocked over, and you weren't watching, ...

Re: Alphabet Letters ?

This may be too late but to me the easiest way to put letters of a particular font into an STL file is to use Sketchup and do Tools-> 3D text. It doesn't get more simple than that. You can use whatever font that Windows has.... and obviously you can download fonts to add to Windows. Edit: I realized...
