3-Axis Cable Chain Upgrade
Re: 3-Axis Cable Chain Upgrade
It looks so professional, my M2 is going to be ashamed to be seen in public from now on.
Well, okay, not really. But I've received comments about all the exposed wires before. . .

Re: 3-Axis Cable Chain Upgrade
Hi Justine,
I found an error in the parts list. The end pieces for the chain are .5" wide with the part number given and the chain itself is .9" wide so they don't match. The chain looks kind of wide, can you confirm that it's the chain part number that is wrong so I can order the correct one? I didn't catch it when I placed the order.
The two part numbers I ordered where 4516T46 and 4556T31

Re: 3-Axis Cable Chain Upgrade
Thank you for making this.
This was a HUGE inspiration for me when I started my chain project. The main difference is that I went with printed chain, and redesigned some of your brackets to fit with my printed chain =)
Only thing left is redrawing one bracket and extend the cables.. *sigh* ... oh well...

Construction ahead... speeding fines doubled!...
Definitely a labor intensive modification, but should really extend the life of the harness.

Re: 3-Axis Cable Chain Upgrade
Finito! Thanks again jhaupt for a really neat project! I included a little video showing the motion. Just waiting now on a coil to make the harnesses behind the control box look neater. Only change I made was to add one more link to the "Y" axis chain. When extended all the way forward it was a little short on mine.

Re: 3-Axis Cable Chain Upgrade
I hope that Rick is reading this thread, this would be a nice addition to the standard M2. I have these on my CNC router and they are very nice.
Hats off to those that have done this as an add on. Great job.

Re: 3-Axis Cable Chain Upgrade
It's hard to do that though ... you can't offer a "pro" version without diluting the main one, and the M2 is already priced about as high as it can be on the stock trim. They might be able to do it with dropdowns at checkout like the X-Carve guys do, but that feels to the customer like nickle & diming (and requires them to actually have a web developer )
Perhaps a rebrand for an "industrial" version, which is mostly just a fanless M2 with all these upgrades on it already, perhaps with a stock enclosure of some sort.

The M2 is a premium product. That doesn't come cheap.might be able to do it with dropdowns at checkout like the X-Carve guys do, but that feels to the customer like nickle & diming
I would really like to be able to choose from a set of features to get the features that I want and not the ones I don't need.
I actually like the way the X-carve folks did it.
Nickel and Dime me ------ PLEASE.
Re: 3-Axis Cable Chain Upgrade
FYI, the part numbers for the cable chain and ends I meant to have in the PDF are 4516T46 and 4556T33, which is the .9" wide version for a .5" max cable bundle. Being jdacal found the smaller chain (parts 4516T44 and 4556T31) also work I've added a note in the PDF about using those instead and corrected my original numbers. Will upload it tonight.
