Re: Smoothieboard
Easy for you and Jules to say. . . you're costing me $170.
I think the fame and glory go to the ones who designed the board and the path planning algorithms. But you're right; my reputation as a hardware/software hacker is at stake. . .[/quote]
I'm sure you have looked into the Smoothie of course we all have its a new toy
but i would have to say its def worth every cent just good luck finding one here in the USA lol
I gave up and just ordered one from Appleseed and it was cheaper than the Smoothies that were out of stock here in the U.S even with shipping through UPS/FedEx..
cant wait to play with it!

Re: Smoothieboard
I ordered one from the Hackaday store (thanks to PcS for the link). They didn't say anything about not being in stock or lead-times and such. So we'll see. . .

i was about to say that i was wrong Tim..and get this Robotseed.com sent me an email after already buying the Smoothie5X the smart LCD for it and the 5V reg cost me $305.46 usd with shipping just to get an email from them saying they don't deal with anyone from the U.S! grrrr They sure took my money! so in the same email he said that Hackaday had them in stock but they only have the board not the voltage regulator or the smart LCD which looks just like the one i got off Makergeeks only a different breakout board?? do you know anything about this Tim? or where in the good ol U.S of A i can get the Smart LCD an voltage reg for the Smoothieboard?
Thanks Tim

Re: Smoothieboard
Chuckle! Don't you see Tim? ....it has to be you, we don't know what the heck to do with one....

Re: Smoothieboard
There's also http://us.misumi-ec.com/ and http://www.8020.net/ for aluminum extrusions.
Re: Smoothieboard
You can get the voltage regulator from Digi-key: http://www.digikey.com, part number 945-1648-5-ND, $2.84 each, in stock.Volcom7114 wrote: or where in the good ol U.S of A i can get the Smart LCD an voltage reg for the Smoothieboard?
(edit) If you are powering an LCD controller, they recommend the 1-amp version, which is Digi-key part number 945-2201-ND, $3.62, in stock.
For the smart LCD, I will have to do some more research.
(another edit) You can get the "Full Graphic Smart LCD Controller" from http://www.reprapdiscount.com/best-sales ($69.00, and marked "Available"). This board is listed under "Supported Panels" on http://smoothieware.org/panel/. However, if you go to http://smoothieware.org/smoothiepanel/, you'll find a prototype in progress for a very large and nice looking LCD panel (debut undisclosed, said they would have a Kickstarter campaign when it's ready). Could be overkill. I'm inclined to say that if the Smoothieboard has an ethernet jack and an on-board HTML server, I'm going to access it off the Web. . . but I suppose there's still plenty of reasons to have standalone operation capability.

Re: Smoothieboard
Good luck on the bed heater. One that big draws major power and cost big money. Just iff the top if my head that size will draw somewhere between 4000-6000 watts. It will have to run 240vac. Then again the $1k youll prob pay for the heater will be nothing compared to the elec bill..lol
