Bottom Mount M2 Filament Drive.

Post by Lateralg » Thu Sep 18, 2014 10:43 pm

I've modified the M2 filament drive with two objectives:
1) To accommodate the E3D V6
2) To enhance the original drive in the following ways:
A- Eliminate the slight misalignment between the filament hole and the PTFE hole in the insulator.
B- Allow for PTFE tube to guide the filament throughout the filament drive & into the PTFE insert in the insulator. (similar to the E3D V6)
C- Provide bottom mounting that allows mounting of the E3D V6 with its thru & thru PTFE tube ... AND provides more secure mounting of the hot end assembly when using the MG hot end. This is done by securing the insulator to the filament drive with two 3mm screws & nuts and a pair of printed retainers.

I plan to incorporate more of the E3D V6 features into the design. (better cooling of insulator & barrel as well as thru and thru PTFE filament guide.) I'm also developing a method to assure near-perfect alignment of filament guide with the insulator. Watch this space for further developments.

Caveat: I'm about to make the first print of new design. Worst case expected is some minor part interferences.
The retainers need to be modified to fit between the top two fins of the E3D V6. I'm working on this.

Dang. File Extension .stl not allowed on this forum. Is there a work-around? Like re-naming the file?

And here's the retainer.
Two required.
Works for MG mount, but requires mod to work for E3D V6.

I'm still working on it & getting closer. My confidence that it will be significant improvement remains.

I should mention that I've had two Edison - type "successes".
