Being in a wheelchair will make playing with the printer that much easier! now i have seen some that come with the micro SD card with NOOBS is that needed or not? also found this kit, would it be worth getting or not.. this is all just something for me to do and have fun with.

thanks again!
That's a nice kit if you want to experiment with circuits. These guys also have a lot of kits for Raspberry and other processors.
I did order a kit on Amazon my first time around, but it came with a really cheap network adapter. But I was probably just unlucky on that one.
You do need a micro SD card if one doesn't come with it. I use the Octopi version which is found on this page under "Setup Raspberri Pi Running Raspbian" link. Not sure what NOOBS does, I'm really not into Linux stuff, just basically followed the installation instruction on that link.
EDIT: Forgot to include the link for the kits:

Thanks! I do have many micro SD cards all class 10 cards a few San Disk and some Lexar ranging from 16GB to 64gb, I know I have a few 32GB cards and im sure it would have to be formatted with a software they offer but im not sure if it has to be a specific card or not? Have you heard of Element14? I guess there are a lot of people making fack RP's with the name and everything on the PCB but just not the real deal so I am not going to try and steer away from flebay even tho im a flebay addict lol
what all was involved in hooking it to your printer and then connecting to it via network (wifi) i am also looking at getting the camera for it so i can see whats going on while im away.. I have to have surgery on March 9th (lower spine) this has been ongoing since I got hurt in Iraq so i can say being blown up sucks but im lucky to be here typing this! anyway ill be down and out for about a month or more so im looking forward to getting this set up so i can play while im down.
NOOBS is the starting software from what I understand.. I guess lol

Most microSD should work fine I think I'm using class 10. Fastest read speed is best. I think I'm using a 32gb but its overkill, smaller one should be fine unless your going to store all your STL's on it. I just keep mine on my hard drive. Haven't heard of Element14.
After you install the firmware using the instructions in the link I posted earlier it will reboot into the graphical operating system and theirs an icon there for wi-fi. You just let it scan for you wi-fi network and enter username and password.
You then connect the pi to your printer via USB and then go to your PC, open your browser and type "octopi.local/#" and it will ask for your log-in and a few other questions and finish the setup. You'll then be in the control panel for the printer. You'll have to specify com port and baud rate if it doesn't detect it. On my Firefox browser it tends to add "www." before the url. For some reason it won't connect that way so I have to remove the "www." and then it connects ok.
For the camera you can either use the pi camera wired to the pi or you can use an ip camera with a fixed ip address.
Good luck with your surgery!

Yea I did but there are other things I would like to do also. It will look cool anyhow lol
I ordered some extra parts as well today such as a few nozzles (one of each size) and barrels to go with them and other odds and ends just to have around. i hate waiting for something when it brakes down so i like to have extras of things.. i think im going to buy another Raspberry Pi 2 for playing with and just seeing what i can do for fun... i know their are apps you can download for the IOS and Android to allow your to use the Pi but im not for what they are?

Those using Octoprint with the raspberry pi... looking into it I see mention of using a external powered hub. I ordered a Pi 2 so it has enough USB ports for everything and I also bought a 2.2a power supply so is that enough juice for everything or do I still need a powered hub too?

Its been working great for me with a 2.5a on the B+. If the 2.0 is the newest one its supposed to be more energy efficient so you should be ok.

Funny. I was just thinking about adding a relay and modding the code of my pi to be able to shut down the printer once a print is done.. (or switch it on by remote for that matter)
Did you automate the shutdown once it was done?

I was going to do that originally, ordered the parts and everything but got lazy and bought a WEMO switch. I'm happy with it.

I'm interested in knowing what all you guys have your Raspi doing with your printer.. Some info and good links for doing what we are doing with them would be great.
