Mic 6 tooling plate
Re: Mic 6 tooling plate
Hey Jim, I'm ready to dive into this plate. Can you PM me were to ship it to? I might order two so charge me something for the labor.
Re: Mic 6 tooling plate
Welcome to the MIC6 club, I hope you'll be a fan!
Since I can't see temperature, the most noticeable difference over glass after a week or so is the sheer flatness of the thing. You can print anywhere and everywhere without worrying about height variation. Adhesion is good with PLA and glue stick. I went to Walmart for some different hairspray and ended up with Suave Max Hold with an 8; the 10s were all sprays and didn't come in pumps. Less than impressed with it. I was unable to find Jim's favorite brand, Garnier Fructis #5, may have to Amazon it. I want to avoid the aerosols as removing and replacing the bed is a chore (a very minor one, but still more annoying than not doing it).
Oh, that reminds me, you will be wanting jim's corner clamps. I used to rely on the corner screws to hold the glass in place, but the plate will come exactly the size of the bed heater. Make sure it is flush to the heater after clamping, it is possible to have it firmly held but with a gap.

actually i can see in his web cam feed he already has my corner clamps on there!! good man!
jin, walmart always has that stuff. maybe they were just sold out. too many people 3d printing i guess. there is a night and day difference between that stuff and the aquanet everyone uses.

Thanks jsc, sounds great, eager to test it. I ordered two tonight so I have an extra for quick swaps.
I printed the corner clamps last week, really like them. Funny how the ABS holds up so well against the bed heat.
Also hadn't thought about the pump type hairspray, might give that a try after I run out of glue sticks. Glue sticks have been working great for me though, at least with PLA, ABS, and PETg. Haven't tried them with more exotic stuff.

Re: Mic 6 tooling plate
Jim are you still offering to do the Mic 6 plates. I would like to get one done properly. I can order from McMaster Carr and have dropped shipped to you if you will send address. I would gladly pay for the cutting and bead blasting. I have had too many glass chips on the edges.
Re: Mic 6 tooling plate
yeah sure, its no big deal to do it. just shoot me a pm.
Re: Mic 6 tooling plate
Hi Jim, received the two plates today. Haven't used them yet but the fit was exact! Didn't even have to adjust the corner brackets. The finish looks great. Thanks, great job!

Re: Mic 6 tooling plate
yeah its 1/4". thats the thinnest you can get mic6. i guess because its a milled finish tooling plate.
jdacal, thats great. hope you like how it works. its really nice not having to use binder clips

Re: Mic 6 tooling plate
Duh! This wasn't working for me. ABS not adhering with glue stick. Then I realized that on the unfinished side it comes with a plastic laminate that has to be removed. I had thought the manufacturers logo was stenciled or something on that side, but its not, the plastic needs to be removed. It was on there so snug I couldn't tell it was a piece of plastic. Going to try print again shortly.
