v4 Hot End Indicator Mount

Post by Slipshine » Sat Apr 25, 2015 8:09 pm

I just finished putting in my v4 Hot end upgrade and discovered the most wonderful thing.

Their is a indicator mount built right in to the hot end holder.

if you take out the clamp screw and use a longer one you can mount an indicator right in the thread clearance hole.

A little better look

Looks like the newer V4 mounts are anodized black. The first run of them were not anodized.

Great idea. I have a dial like that, which is way more accurate than the one I have been using, going to give this a try, because I keep running into issues where I am not level.

That is another "poster boy" for calibration cubes! (Ed and Jin also posted a couple.) Looks great! :D

Great idea. These lever style dial indicators require less force than plunger style indicators, so they shouldn't compress the bed's springs and give a false reading.

I removed the spring from the plunger in my cheapo indicator. Since gravity always works in the right direction, it's not needed here. It was just a small extension spring out in plain view behind the back plate.

Would I need a high quality indicator for leveling the bed? I was hoping to just buy one of these:
