After reading this, I've decided to give the soothieware a try. Though i am going with another hardware alternatives to the real smoothieboard.
sbase mks - its a smoothieboard compatable, and goes for about 70 bucks from alibaba ( not to be confused with base mks ).
the sbase seems to have everything needed plus the ability to do 1/32 or 1/16 steps by changing a jumper ... using 8825
from a cost standpoint its 1/2 or less the cost of the smothieboard , another bonus no need for an add on 5v regulator as its built in.
so far its been getting tumbs-up on the reprap forums. figure for another 20 i'll throw in a LCD12864 graphics controller too off ebay.
i've got a m2 circa mid 2013 barely used, in need of a new rambo board and a 24v upgrade.... so its a good doner for this.. have a 24v supply and hbp on it's way and already have a new(ish) 24v hotend... should be fun.

I'm startign to look into the settings and have a question...

I noticed Tim has all current settings to 1.5A - seems like those were the default values and a bit high for at least the extruder.
Tim, was this intentional?

maybe i am misunderstanding somthing, but id think the values should be the same in the marlin firmware.
These are the current values i got out of the values in the firmware
x 0.75a
y 0.75a
z 0.7a
e0 0.9A (165 value not 185)

I couln't find info data or model numbers for any stepper but the extruder, maybe somone post model numbers of the steppers for X Y and Z axis?
or the specs for each if the modles are unavailable.

I could find was the extruder stepper which is 42BYGH243-5
MOTOR,STEP,GEARED,42MM,5.2:1,2.6V,1A,2.6 OHM,3.2MH
1.8 DEGREE,NEMA 17,BIPOLAR,10KG-CM HOLDING

it would seem .9a is a safe value. (90%) 1.5A seems high unless i am mis-understanding somthing.
