they seem to be Astrosyn MY17RMDAMP dampers.

cheap enough to give it a try.

I've read good things about them on the cnc forums.
not just reducing sound but increasing quality... though you would think that there would be some quality loss due to the rubber gasket.

also several other companies sell them in single piece quantities, if you don't want to get them in sets of 3 or 4 as sold on eBay.

i'm interested if anyone sees a quality difference.

also, anyone have concerns going from 4 screws holding your stepper in to two?

I work right next to my printer most of the time, so for the noise reduction alone they seem worth buying.

Update:

There's been no change in the quality of the prints. The loudest noise now is the fans, followed by the extruder motor (which is now surprisingly loud on the v4 setups -- it's not loud, it's just louder than I'd have expected).

I'm thinking if I go through and replace all my dying-bearing filament drive fans, I'll be able to actually work in the room as all the M2s are going.

I just installed these on my printer and the difference is dramatic.

I finally put my dampers on....it's soo awesome! So quiet. Dare I say the print quality looks its best ever.
I have only run one print though. I'd be interested to see how a tall skinny part comes out.

I haven't had any issues with mine at this point. The only downside is that the fans seem too loud.. haha

Something about the dampers really does make the fans deafening

i'll probably install mine soon as I got other parts I need to install also...
what about putting a damper on the z axsis?

That motor turns maybe 100 microsteps at the end of each layer, then remains stationary for the entire layer. That motion isn't overlapped with XY commands, so, seeing as how there's no Z-axis motor vibrations to damp, a damper probably won't buy you much.

Except, possibly, bragging rights, which aren't to be sniffed at around here. [grin]
