PEI?

Post by rgproduct.com » Sat May 31, 2014 10:26 pm

Hi

I have come across using PEI coating or sheet as a base board for cold and heated prints as it seems to have the right combination of stick and hold for reliable prints.

Anyone tried it?

I use a PEI (ultem) build platform for pla prints and I find that it works wonderfully. The build platform does need to be heated 70 degrees Celsius for pla and you need to be careful of scratching it. I tried using a solid .125" thick sheet at first but due to bowing of the plastic it did not work so well. No matter what I tried I could not get it to sit perfectly flat. Then I switched over to a .04" sheet adhered to a borosilicate plate and that has worked beautifully.

Interesting. Here's a 12x12x0.03" sheet for $20: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0013HKZTA/ref=biss_dp_t_asn

It says the upper temperature range is 390F (200C), which is lower than what the plastic coming out of your extruder will be, briefly. Is that a problem?
