I was wondering if you guys think it would be a good idea if I started a thread on Filaments; mainly what brands work well, consistency, etc. I have tried a few brands, but have found it hard to find info on what brands are good, or which ones to stay away from?
I was just wondering if you guys think it would be worth the time, especially for newbies!

somewhere there is a thread on this but in anycase your always good with makergear, esun, push plastic, b3d, colorfabb, many use hatchbox with good results. between all those suppliers there really isnt any reason to go anywhere else. that pretty much covers all your bases right there.

For those in Europe, Dimension Alley in Berlin (a 3D printing cafe -- yes, you can get a pastry & coffee while printing -- https://dimensionalley.com/) sells and ships PLA from http://3dk.berlin/ -- which you can now also buy directly from. (Haven't tried that yet, selling directly is new for them.)
The nicest/coolest thing is the variety of colors available in PLA -- both a huge selection in stock, or they'll actually make a custom batch for you to match any Pantone color (5kg minimum order for that.) Not cheap, but a bit cheaper than colorfabb.

Makergear is closed for the holidays and I need black ABS filament. I was wondering which company I should buy my black ABS in the mean time?

I use Hatchbox almost exclusively, mostly because it's always good and I can get many colors same-day and with free shipping through Amazon Prime. I once started a print, then got concerned about not having enough filament on the spool for it to finish. I placed an order with Amazon and got the new spool later that same afternoon before the print even finished. It turns out that I didn't need the second spool on that particular print, but it was cool anyway. I've also used MakerGear and eSun, both are excellent as well.
Hatchbox Black ABS with free same day shipping, $23. Hard to beat.

I have tried Hatchbox, Makergear, 3DSolutech, eSun, Printinz.
The best for the price is Hatchbox. No knock on the others, just Hatchbox is cheapest, and most consistent.
