Re: esun petg
Thanks for the tip JSC, put that way, it does seem more out of line. I think I have the machine calibrated well as i now get a height of 2.004mm for a 2.00 mm tall block. I went for an extrusion multiplier of 1.04 Does that seem reasonable? its the only way I get the desired 0.40 thinwall thickness, so I guess the science doesn't lie....
Now for the dreaded topic of...stringing:
I'm trying out multiple methods that Slic3r will do with only a light improvement in stringing. I retract 1mm at 100mm/s crossing perimeters and z-height change. z-lift for crossing perimeters is 0.1mm.
any wise words?

That retraction seems really aggressive. I get very little stringing (at least with white, black, orange etc) with much less retraction.Matt_Sharkey wrote:Thanks for the tip JSC, put that way, it does seem more out of line. What is the diameter of your filament? EM over 1 seems strange.

I had picked up those retraction numbers somewhere online[citation needed]Bratag wrote: That retraction seems really aggressive. I get very little stringing (at least with white, black, orange etc) with much less retraction.

I thought the same, but for what it's worth, the extruder assembly that I'm printing right now is coming out wonderfully. (also has 100% cooling fan)
The filament dia is ~1.78 it is also a textured surface to make things more difficult, I have never printed with textured filament before.

For me 1.78 gives me about at .88-.92 EM. I am amazed when people say they are printing PETG with cooling. Every time I try it I get insane delamination.

EDIT: as I typed this a thread pulled from a perimeter and wrecked the printMatt_Sharkey wrote: I had picked up those retraction numbers somewhere online[citation needed]

Does the Filament Drive need supports to print?
Re: esun petg
Yes, it does need some manual supports. (Not in the hole that the filament passes through, which is why you add it manually.) The filament holes will need to be reamed out a bit with a 2mm drill bit. (Twirled between your fingers, not on a drill.)Matt_Sharkey wrote:Does the Filament Drive need supports to print?

jim's post on the bits here:

I think you're speaking S3D language... curse you Slic3r and your open-source-short-comings.Jules wrote: Yes, it does need some manual supports.

Re: esun petg
just a heads up, william has solid red petg in stock. its the first air shipment here so as usual on 1 roll allowed per person for now. he also got in the esun polycarb which i have tried a sample of awhile back. it was really nice. it only warps about the same as abs which is pretty amazing for pc.
