Polycarbonate results

Post by dave2brecht » Mon Jun 01, 2015 5:56 pm

I was able to print a fairly large part with sharp corners with Gizmo Dorks clear PC filament. I'm using the v4 at around 285C and maxing out my heated bed at around 135C. I gave up on glass + glue stick after 3 attempts and put a sheet of ultem on the bed. This seemed to do the trick. I printed with a standard raft with 0.2mm separation. I also used support for the overhangs, turned out really nice.

The part shrunk about about 0.8% so I will need to rescale the XY and try it again.

The printed part is so much stronger than ABS or PLA, no comparison. I printed with 25% infill and it is very strong. Also, very machinable. I was able to drill out all the holes with no cracking.

how was the warping on it? .8% is not alot of shrinking at all. for comparison abs is around 1.5%, nylon 2% and esun petg is .4%. polycarb usually warps like a sob because the shrink factor is usually similar to or more than nylon. very surprising the gizmo stuff is only .8%. they must have it blended with something or done something to it to decrease that and make it useable. esun's stuff which is in beta was a low warp variant as well.

It took several tries/settings/print surfaces to get it not to warp. My favorite surface is glass + glue stick, but I just couldn't get the PC to stick so I had to use Ultem.

However, I printed some smaller parts with less issues.
