MakerGear PLA Temperature

Post by tks546 » Mon May 16, 2016 2:37 am

Is the MakerGear PLA that ships with the printer really temperature insensitive or am I doing a temperature test wrong?
I printed this 15x15x60 block starting the bottom layer temperature at 220. I set S3D to lower the temp 2.5 degrees every 25 layers until 190.
I can't see any difference from the top to the bottom of the of the block. I monitored the temperature while it was printing an watched it lower throughout the print.

Don't know - never run one. :)

Maybe it needs more of a swing (or larger temperature blocks) to show the differences more clearly. 25 layers is pretty small, and a 2.5° swing is pretty gradual. Maybe run the bottom third at 220°, and the top two thirds at 190°. See if there is a transition zone.

Or just print two separate prints of something smaller at the two temps and see if there is a difference in finish.
