MakerGear PLA Lot 1701801 - Garbage

Post by CPatrick » Sat Jun 10, 2017 5:34 pm

Just a warning for anyone purchasing a new MakerGear, and getting a spool of PLA, Lot 1701801 with their purchase. It's garbage, and you should toss the spool in the trash. The windings in my spool are stuck together, and have caused two extruder jams that required soaking the extruder in Zip Zap for days and reaming the .35mm opening with guitar string.

Not sure what's in Zip Zap, but MEK will dissolve PLA. There's also no need to soak for days. Take the nozzle off and use a propane or mapp gas torch to reduce the clog to ashes.

Thanks for the tip, Thunderbt3!

I had a hard time finding a paint thinner that contained MEK. Everything is now based in eco-friendly mineral spirits.
