Dual Extruder question
Seeing this will be shipped soon, 2 major questions:
1.Where will and how will the 2nd spool holder for 2 color printing be located?
2. Will S3D be able to configure the 2nd hot end and still run the M2?

Re: Dual Extruder question
John s3d will control 2 extruders no problem. I know nothing for the other question.

Re: Dual Extruder question
Dual extruder kit arrived today. Lots of parts, will have to wait until my busy season is over before install.
Worrisome part is the code upgrade that looks tricky to configure the 2 hot ends.
Then, making it work thru S3D.
Instructions said do not post a link to the install directions, so I'm not.

Re: Dual Extruder question
John, the dual configuration isn't that difficult - I've worked out most of the stupid details and caveats already X)
I assume you've seen http://makergear.wikidot.com/dual ?

Re: Dual Extruder question
If you work with S3D and G codes a lot, I'm sure it's not complicated to you (Josh).
Stupid is good, cause that's where I started from.

Re: Dual Extruder question
Take a look at this page http://www.simplify3d.com/support/tutor ... extruders/. It looks like the easy thing to try first is to use the second extruder for the infill. As a first test I plan to put two different color PLA filaments in the machine and use the second extruder for the infill. If you interrupt the print in the middle you should see the inside one color and the outside a different color.

Re: Dual Extruder question
Someday down the road, right now too busy to do the upgrade.
Besides, when I do finally have the time, the wrinkles will be ironed out.
This board is a tremendous resource that can help make anyone successful at 3D printing.
My eternal thanks to all who take the time to help us new to making "things" with our M2s

Re: Dual Extruder question
I see Capt. John's first question doesn't seem to be answered in the replies above. Didn't want to leave it hanging...
The 2nd spool holder mounts outboard on the right-hand side of the frame, very much like the existing one on the left. The dual-extruder kit includes the spool holder, the guide tube, the second filament guide bracket, second extruder motor, wiring harness, etc., etc. Josh had a dual machine printing while I was there, and it looks sweet in action. Based on what I saw, I went through the contents of the box mentally (as best I can, considering... ) when I got it home, and I couldn't think of anything that might be needed to upgrade the M2 to dual extruders that was missing from the kit.... including the requisite piece of candy.
Can't wait to get it set up and test it out!
And thanks to Josh for letting me, once again, take his afternoon off on some interesting tangents! Seriously, in addition to building M2s, it's like a Josh-idea-factory in there!
