V4 Quick Release

Very nice about the V4 is that the hot-end can be released quite easily. However, as the wiring is supposed to run between the filament drives and the extruder motors, a hot-end swap would require taking the filament drives off. For avoiding that I let my wires for the right heater, temp sensor, and the fans run on the right side of the motors. For that, I modified the motor shroud stl from the MG repository such that there is another cable clamp on the right side:

I needed to swap the cables I use for the left and the right heaters and sensors in order to use all cables from one harness for the right side and all cables of the other harness for the left side.
Finally, I replaced the zip ties by simple wires that also hold the cables nicely together when twisted.

Unfortunately, I cannot upload the STL file here as it has more than 1MB even when zipped.
Is it ok to put modifications of files by MG on thingiverse?

There are various M2 modifications on Thingiverse, but I think you should probably get an okay from the MakerGear guys before printing something related to the V4 dual extruder. If you send me a copy, I could put it on opencircuitdesign.com and you could link to it here with a URL.

Cool design with the holders for the tubes.

Has anybody redesigned the filament guide for the right side? I don't like the way it sticks out the side. It needs to stick out toward the back, preferably with a hinge to let it swing back and forth.

I increased the attachment size to 1.25m. Does that work?

Hi Rick,

unfortunately not. The zipped version needs about 3.5m.

Thanks,
here is the motor shroud with the second cable clamp (even a bit less megabyte than I thought):

Here are also the modified versions for the filament drives with the tube holders. They are intended to provide support for very soft filament like polyflex.
I use tubes with a diameter of ~4mm.

rightExtruder1-Dual_Filament_Drive_Right.zip

-edited: gcode file replaced by stl file for right filament drive

Uh, just to point it out. . . "leftExtruder3-Dual_Filament_Drive_Left.zip" contains an STL file, but "rightExtruder1-Dual_Filament_Drive_Right.zip" contains a gcode file. . . can you please repost the *_Right.zip file with the STL file? Thanks!

Thanks Tim, I uploaded the correct file.
