It is a question that I also asked myself initially and not out of malice, just paying notice to the obvious imbalance of the male/female ratio. It is such a skewed number, it's hard not to notice and ask why it might be that way.
I'm finally back to where I started two days ago!

A thread with some stuff in it I update every once in a while. viewtopic.php?f=8&t=9

I blame the entire primary/secondary school system. Probably tertiary/quaternary as well.

Shoot! It starts much younger than that.... I blame Barbie dolls. (Teach them to shop and play dress up at an incredibly young age.....booooring. At five i was helping Dad to disassemble and reassemble the washing machine.)

Dads, invite your daughters to take things apart with you.....you might just be amazed. :D

I don't know what the difference is, but I have noted that there are more females active in the CNC forum that I monitor than here on the 3D printing forum.

The X-carve only comes as a kit and the ladies hang right in there with the guys. Quite a few of the forum members (regardless of gender) have never done anything with CNC machines before, yet they assemble their machines and troubleshoot them and then do some amazing work.

Everyone is willing to help whoever needs it.

It really is strange, but i saw it too - I was noticing over on the Glowforge forum that there are just scads of gals signed up to try out an untested (and as yet unbuilt) laser cutter, compared to those in the 3D printing arena. (And I would have thought that exactly the reverse would have more appeal. I'd be much more concerned with starting a fire in my house with a laser than a printer.)

A laser cutter is just a vinyl cutter on steroids, and you should have some idea of how popular those are, Jules.

Speaking of which, where exactly is this forum that you run?
