Map of schools using 3D printers

Post by bryankerr » Wed Feb 11, 2015 9:08 am

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to research how many schools are using 3D printers, and I've created a Google map to visualize the data. If you're using a 3D printer in a K-12 school, please fill out this short form to add your school to the map, or forward it to someone who does.

Thanks for your help!

I just added the local high school. They have an engineering class with a printer

I'm hesitant to add my school's name to the list, but I will let my boss know that you are researching and leave it up to him.

Unfortunately I know of a few schools in the area that HAVE a 3D printer, but don't necessarily USE, or even know how to use, said 3D printer.

Thanks for letting your boss know Matt. It's such a shame about the other schools not using their printers. I wonder which ones they have and whether the roadblock is usability, reliability, no expertise at the school, or a combo of all three. I really hope 3d printers don't become like the iPads fiasco in Los Angeles schools. Schools really need to invest in professional development before purchasing a printer.

I'm giving a talk at an ed tech conference next month about how we integrated 3D printing with a language arts unit for eighth graders. I will definitely recommend they get M2s. Our have been rock solid work horses.

I added our local high school, where I got a demonstration of their Cubify just yesterday. It looked like it gets quite a workout there, probably more than it's designed for. I'll try to persuade them to get an M2. . .

Awesome, thanks Tim. Added it to the map. Which Cubify are they using?

I'm not sure of the differences between the 1st and 2nd generation Cube, but I think it's a 1st generation.
