I like #250
Re: makergear site logo
I'll have to say these designs look nice, but I would like to see more variety.
None of them jump out at me and say this is the one.
Also, they share a common theme, that is, Gear as the gears in a transmission rather than Gear as in equipment to do a job.
If I saw one of these designs out of context I would be looking for a synchronizer for second gear in my old classic.
Now, before too many of you jump all over me, no I couldn't do it better.

Re: makergear site logo
funny i was coming back from the show today sort of brainstorming ideas and what i was thinking of was something ver similar to #154.
some things to think about when i comes to a logo. in most cases you dont want a logo that is tall like 33, 119 or 25. when they are proportioned this way its very hard to use them as a web page header or letter heads, etc. when they are tall like this, to fit in a wide but low height space they need to be shrunk down and dont fit the width of the page well and by the time they are shrunk down to where they do fit the makergear lettering is very tiny. they would be fine for other types of businesses where you used the logo mostly as lettering on the side of a van or box truck etc. it fits the space well on something like that. makergear is not that type of business and the logo will mostly be on the web or used as a header in some way.....i would think. while its not my main gig, i have designed quite a few business logos in the past and i always try to keep in mind where the logo will be used. just tossing that out there for rick to think about.
as for the 3 that are left....
#30 is slick. i do like that logo alot. do i think it fits a 3d printer company....ehhh probably not. reminds me of some motorcycle accessory parts company. if i saw that logo and didnt know who makergear was i would never get the impression it was 3d printers. i guess this is the point larry was trying to make.
#208 is kinda nice and all but to me has no pop. reminds me of some of the logos on the front door of the nyc art galleries or shops i walked by today.
#154 is the one i am voting for. its proportioned right. the one at the top has the 3 contrasting colors in it so its catchy and grabs your attention. the small text at the bottom is not overwhelming and almost disappears from the rest of the logo but if you want to know what maker gear is then its informative and doesnt leave you guessing. i would change how that reads a little. maybe "precision desktop 3d printers". something along those lines.

Jumping right out of the images:rpollack wrote:Let me know if you like one of these logos...
- Avoid a stylized M: you already suffer from brand confusion
- Tiny type doesn't scale
- Long-winded explanations don't belong
- Crisp beats stamp pad
Re: makergear site logo
I like this one, but you might consider one small addition to bring it into the realm of 3D printing - maybe run a thread off one of the gears to suggest the printing process?
Something like this:
(That was really quick and I don't recommend those exact colors....just the idea/shape.)

Re: makergear site logo
25 seems to be the only one to get the point across .I think the sizing needs to be changed as I had to squint to see the last line. Maybe a different color too ?
Re: makergear site logo
I agree with lem, and no disrespect to who ever created all the logos as they are pretty cool in their own right but it seems like a marketing team that took the name too literally. Including that type of gear in the logo is very misleading. I think when trying to get the brand Makergear across you need promote it as tools needed to "make" stuff not a "gear as in a cog"lem wrote: Also, they share a common theme, that is, Gear as the gears in a transmission rather than Gear as in equipment to do a job.

I am not sure why the poll limited it to six. Choose from any:

I really like #33 (and variations by the same designer) particularly the font.
I am not big into logos and such but we are re-doing the website and it would be nice to have a logo or something distinctive on the site.
