I've used MatterControl, and its a nice package, definitely more user friendly than RH. I.e. Airwolf includes it as the default app to use with their custom settings. It does not technically have a slicer, but uses slic3r or cura (you can import settings). Interestingly though, there are perfectly good models I was not able to slice through MC (it threw a mysterious 'slicing error' with no explanation of what could have gone wrong or how to fix it), so I had to go back to RH and slice there (with the same slicer), which worked just fine for the same stls.

Thankfully I did get the Simplify 3d two week trial which I went ahead and purchased! I love the program especially the editable supports tool.
