I think the recommendation was for some light grease like lithium grease for the rails and some 3-in-one type oil for the threads on the screw.
Mine came with a small tub of grease and I have not used it up yet. That was a long time ago so I am not sure what they send now.

The regular 3 in 1 oil makes me sneeze too much. So I've been trying this stuff. Seems to be working ok and comes with a nice syringe to get it in the rail groove. It's one of those syringes with an o-ring that you just twist the tip to turn off the flow. Can't really give a definite recommendation yet as I haven't been using it very long on the printer. Its worked great in other applications though:

For the Z rod I ordered a small tube of lithium grease from Amazon.

MakerGear recommends oiling the round rods with 3-in-1 or similar, for rust protection, and greasing the linear rails and threaded rod with lithium grease. You should have received a small pot of it with your printer, and more can be had from any hardware store.

I went to an auto store (NAPA) and got a whole tube of lithium grease.

Engine oil is made to very high standards for film strength, lubricity, corrosion resistance. Harmless to ABS, has little/no "nasty" ingredients, and is probably the lowest cost.

funny, i use bar and chain oil for my chainsaw. its 30wt and a little more sticky than regular oil so it stays on the rail. i keep it in a small 2oz needle applicator bottle. makes it easy to apply to the groove on the rail

I used to played trombone for 3 years, I would Imagine the Slide Oil or Slide Cream Would be hard to beat. Caution Trombone Tuning Slide Grease Is Not the same thing im referring to. It is for a seperate part of the instrument, and is nothing more than Petroleum jelly.

Also having owned A nice fusbol table for years my father, brother, and I Discovered That Pledge Furniture Polish is almost unmatched For the Cleaning and lubrication of the Player Poles. All Pledge will work well But we found the best Results in the Pledge Orange Wipes.
