Just adding this. Hydraulic Jack Oil also works. I am not sure it's weight but it is wonderful and lasts awhile.

Engine oil conforms to the most rigid performance, anti-corrosion & durability specs I'm aware of. I use 0-20W.

Makgear Recommends 3-in-1 on Smooth rails and bed screws, and White lithium grease on everything else. If you have an assembled M2, my guess is using anything else recommended here would void your warranty.
That said, trombone slide cream is very similar in formulation to white lithium grease, and I'm told has a different odor about it which may be less offensive to you... YMMV. I know white lithium grease stinks pretty good, but I use it for my cars and as such have it on hand.
As for motor oil recommendations, gotta make sure you get a zero weight oil to not gum up the smooth rods, and personally I think 3-in-1 is easier to apply and doesn't stink nearly as much.
