Printing with my new spool holder.
I just got a new 3kg 1.75 ABS but I did not have a big enough spool holder for it.
I found this one http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:119488
It is a really good design. It fits M2 without any screws. It makes this 3kg spool spin very free.
I will not have to change spools so often now.
On the first picture you can see I used two clips to keep the spool on. I am not sure that is needed but better safe than sorry.

haha spool is massive. it looks like it will tip the m2 over on the left.

Were you able to print the spool holder piece without supports like the instructions mention?

We print alot ABS and this 3kg spool is really going to help.

So I ended up printing it with support.
It is almost runs to freely I need to tighten it up a little after this print.

I can't believe Home Depot doesn't stock the bolts without the threads, at least my nearby one doesn't. Now I'm going to have to order them.

every once in awhile i check your video feed to see what your printing. funny , next thing on my print list is about a dozen filament clips. btw nice knob and fan guards

What can I say? ... Designed by one of the best! Really like both designs, thanks for sharing. Here's the hardware I ordered from McMaster-Carr in case someone else has trouble finding the bolt without the threaded portion.
1 pack 92186A604 Type 316 Stainless Steel Hex Head Cap Screw, 5/16"-18 Thread, 5-1/2" Long
1 pack 97135A220 Grade 8 Steel Nylon-Insert Hex Locknut, Zinc-Yellow Plated, 5/16"-18 Thread Size, 1/2" Wide, 11/32"
1 pack 95630A219 PTFE Flat Washer, 9/32" Screw Size, 0.325" ID, 0.750" OD, packs of 10
The PTFE washers weren't part of the project but I'm hoping there's enough room where I can put one on each end to reduce lateral friction of the spool holder against the mount and the locking nut.
Thanks for recommending this markb, I had been doing searches for something just like this for a few weeks but that one wasn't coming up for me. I was hoping to find something similar with bearings, but from the videos it looks like there's not a lot of friction. Oh, also ordered a can of DuPont Teflon Non-Stick Dry-Film Lubricant Aerosol Spray, 10 Oz., hoping to coat the bolt with it to reduce friction even more, from Amazon.
EDIT: This is also my first time trying the Sequential printing feature in S3D. Pretty neat! Worked good so far, I set the clearance at 6mm due to the fan, but could probably go to 8-10mm after I take some time to measure it more accurately.
