MINTEMP triggered!

After going through a few failed prints, I'm assuming because of jammed extruder, I was attempting some "cold pulls" with Taulman 618.

After I reconnected, this MINTEMP error is what I got. So my extruder temp is stuck at zero. I haven't figured out how to fix it.

I re-installed the firmware and checked all of the wiring around the extruder for continuity(it was good), I have restarted S3D, restarted the printer.
When I pulled the filament the the hot end jerked a little bit, that why I thought there might be a loose wire.

I'm not sure what else to try....any ideas?

Almost certainly, that means the extruder thermistor has failed or become disconnected.

Unplug the thermistor at the extruder and measure the resistance from pin to pin. It should show about 100 kΩ resistance at room temperature: 135 kΩ in my cool basement, less in a hot room. If it's completely open or shorted, there's your problem.

Be careful with those brittle leads, as they won't put up with much bending. Indeed, the connection may be intermittent and work only while you're measuring it...

Thank you so much Ed.

I know very little about electronics, excuse my ignorance. I set my multimeter to the 200 ohm setting, and probed the molex connector on both sides and got nothing. Then I pulled the themistor from the heater block, I probed the end of the thermistor and one side of the molex connector and got nothing. Then I did the same thing with the other side of the molex connector and the reading was pretty stable around 1.2, which I'm assuming translates to 120.....

So as you said, the thermistor seems to be the problem, at least one of the wires.

I'm not sure where to find a thermistor to replace this one. MakerGear's website show them as being out of stock.

Again, thank you very much for helping.

many things always show out of stock on the website. that means nothing. believe me they have the parts. all you do is send and email to support and makergear will get you the part you need.

Thanks Jimc. I sent an email last night. I'm sure that I'll hear from Karen soon.

So I got my new thermistor today (thanks to Makergear for their awesome support!). But in S3D I'm having an issue getting up to temperature...It's topping out around 240. Same results with send the M104 code as the set temperature button. I have good results with ABS at 245°C, which translates to an actual temp of 225°C I have found out from others.

So what could be going on? The max temp in the firmware is 275°C.

BTW Ed NIsley you page here was helpful!

Ok, temperature is reading 10° lower than what I tell it to be. Which is causing me a problem because the print wont start until it reaches temperature....how do I offset this?

Calibrate your PID settings -- M303 and the like. There's a handful of guides on how to use it.

http://reprap.org/wiki/PID_Tuning

Save to the firmware with M500 when you've got the new values entered.

Thank you insta! I did that and my issue is resolved!
