M2 Makeover

Post by jimc » Thu Mar 26, 2015 12:08 am

so i managed to beat rick up for an old m2 from the 3d printer graveyard. thank you rick! it was one of the older stainless machines but the hardware wall intact. it was missing a bed heater and rambo so i bought that from rick. i will make this machine 24v. i picked up my own power supply for it. all that is left is to get the hot end all assembled and installed and the rambo and all the wiring. i figured since this was mostly disassembled when i got it i would do a total tear down and refurb on it as well as hot rod it a little bit. i tore the z stage and gantry all out of it so it was a bare frame. i media blasted it, epoxy primed it and painted it. i painted a little graphic design on the front edge then clearcoated everything. on the older stainless machines the gantry is machined aluminum so i figured i would keep that look so i sanded it smooth and busted out my metal buffer and did that in a high polish. printed all new parts for it from top to bottom. everything red is the last bit of red pet+ i had here. just waiting on a couple tiny items from makergear. sd card reader and i wanted to do a new wire harness on this thing since its older and may have some hours on it so im not sure what the integrity of the wiring is like where its been flexing. rather just replace everything than take any chances. anyway here is a pic of it after i blasted it and a few of where she is now. once i get it all wired i will post some completed pics.

:( nobody gave me any praise when I bought a cheap M2, refurbished it to approximately stock with no flair, and posted no pictures or threads about it

Looks awesome! Great work!

Any chance you have a link to that fan / shroud piece you have near the extruder? That looks awesome and exactly what I am look for for my machine.

If you don't want to give that up, I complete understand and respect that choice.
