Some 3D printing related tools - any thoughts?

Post by jsc » Fri Jul 17, 2015 12:06 am

Just came across this: http://kk.org/cooltools/archives/24269

I don't have a compressor, but I thought that sand blaster that looks like an airbrush looked pretty interesting, and was wondering if anyone had tried anything like it? Used with baking soda, it seems like it would be a lot less messy than a real sand blaster.

Also, I've never seen "glazing putty" before. Anyone familiar with that? I've seen people making use of "bondo", which sounds similar.

That airbrush thingy is pretty cool I might have to try one.

I use glazing putty on quite a few of my prints if I'm painting them and don't want the layers showing. (It's made to fill the tiny voids and holes after using normal Bondo on say a car.)
I just spread it on with my finger all over and then sand it smooth before painting. The stuff sand pretty easy too so it's not a lot of work. Here's few emblems I was playing around with making for the front of my truck.

This one for a comparison you can see I didn't bother with the eyes or teeth. Everything looks a little textured still because I sprayed it with that tool dip spray to give it a rubbery coat.

On this one.... I did everything but the cross bones, so you can still see the layers there. But should give you an idea how well it fills in the layers. (you can just make out a few on the forehead)

Edit - I can't take credit for the Skull, found that on Thingiverse.

Before folks run to the local home store, don't confuse auto body glazing putty with window glazing putty or you will be a bit disappointed! ;)
I'm finally back to where I started two days ago!

A thread with some stuff in it I update every once in a while. viewtopic.php?f=8&t=9
